Everyone knows Google – it is one of the biggest technological companies in the world, offering some services to automotive sector as well. Google has big ambitions in automotive world as it is developing autonomous cars that are not based on any previous design. But it is also building enhanced infotainment systems based on Android OS. That is what got Volvo interested – infotainment system that not only features a familiar and easy to use design, but also has a huge list of apps available that could make drivers just that little bit happier.

This partnership, results of which will be visible in new Volvo cars in couple of years, revolutionise how Volvo customers engage and interact with their cars. Everyone knows how many apps there are devoted to smartphones, but now Google, Volvo and hundreds of third party developers will be able to create apps dedicated to making car more usable and enjoyable thing in life. Henrik Green, Senior Vice President Research Development at Volvo Car Group, said: “Google’s platform and services will enhance the user experience by enabling more personalisation possibilities, while Android will offer increased flexibility from a development perspective”.

This new infotainment system will be seamlessly integrated into the life of the users. Many people already have Android smartphones, so they will be familiar with the new Volvo’s system. For Google partnership is going to be very beneficial in terms of experience and expanding the Android customer base. We can imagine that there will be many Apps available, which will fit the needs of every individual, his driving style, entertainment preferences and so on.

Cars have more and more technology on board. They are starting to look like tablets on wheels and this trend is definitely going to continue for the foreseeable future. And for this reason, similar partnerships are going to emerge more often in other companies as well, because they benefit both sides. For one it is an opportunity to test its technology in automotive sector and gather some experience in this relatively new sphere, and for car manufacturers it allows bringing more personalization options for the drivers.
