A different collectible car – a peaceful Fiat 500 transformed into inspiring Abarth 695 Rivale

Limited production cars are extremely desirable by collectors. Usually it is some exotic supercars or extreme GT cars, but in some cases automakers decide to make something a little different. Fiat has just introduced Abarth 695 Rivale – limited production hot hatch to celebrate 175th anniversary of the world-famous boat manufacturer Riva.

Riva and Fiat are considered to be Italy’s greats, both producing characterful vehicle, which, in some cases, seek nothing else but to deliver the maximum enjoyment. And that is why Abarth 695 Rivale is so perfect for this occasion. Sedan and cabriolet versions are going to be available distinguishable by two-tone Riva Sera Blue and Shark Grey paintwork with an aquamarine double stripe. It does resemble famous Riva motorboats, but still has that Abarth performance in a super compact package.

695 Rivale is powered by a 1368 cc engine, producing 180 HP and 250 Nm of torque. Doesn’t sound like much if you like performance cars, but remember that this is still Fiat 500 – a car that loves slowly driving around city centre.  It only weighs about 1045 kg, which means that it can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds. But the usual Abarth 695 can do that too, which means that Rivale’s uniqueness is actually all in its style.

As you step into this hot hatch (forget Fiat considers it to be a sedan) you find carbon fibre kick plates, blue leather seats and interior door panels, black mats with blue inserts and the carbon fibre or mahogany dashboard. It is following nautical theme and Riva’s style, by combining wood and the latest technologies. We would choose mahogany over carbon fibre trim, because it just looks that much more Riva-like. As far as technology goes, Abarth 695 Rivale has a UconnectTM infotainment system with a 7″ HD touch screen, which is ready for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Just to add to that already impressive character, Abarth 695 Rivale is fitted with Akrapović exhaust system with carbon tail pipes, Brembo brakes with black, 4-piston fixed callipers at the front, in the 17″ Supersport alloy rims with special gloss grey finish and in the Abarth by Koni suspension with Frequency-Selective Damping technology. This means that it is going to be a blast in winding country roads. However, we should not forget that this is collectible now.

Fiat says that the Abarth 695 Rivale is an Instant Classic. It means that those lucky people who are going to buy it are going to be making an investment. It will take some time, as this is not an exotic sports car or a completely new vehicle, but eventually it should be rare and extremely desirable car. On the other hand, it is quite a stylish ride already, and, knowing what Abarth does to its cars, plenty fun to drive.
